Pool Operator Requirement
All public swimming pools in Nebraska are required to have a pool operator responsible for overseeing daily operations and ensuring compliance with state health and safety regulations. This individual plays a critical role in maintaining proper water quality, chemical balance, and facility safety, as well as keeping required operational records and responding to any safety or health concerns. Nebraska regulations also require that certain pools have a certified operator on staff or readily available, depending on the type of facility.
Certification is obtained through successful completion of an approved training and examination process approved by the National Swimming Pool Foundation, the National Recreation and Park Association, or an equivalent course approved by the Nebraska Department of Water, Energy, and Environment. Permits to function as a certified pool operator in Nebraska are issued by DWEE on their website.
