Maternal and Child Health

Maternal and Child Health

The Sarpy/Cass Health Department offers a variety of Maternal and Child Health (MCH) Services to our community. Our goals are to promote healthy and safe families, empower parents through education and support, improve breastfeeding success, and develop community connections.

SAFE KIDS SARPY/CASS
Safe Kids Sarpy/Cass is dedicated to preventing unintentional injury to our community's children. Our goal is to assist the residents of Sarpy and Cass counties in understanding and implementing strategies to prevent unintentional childhood injury.  Through the Safe Kids Sarpy/Cass Coalition, community partners and local organizations join us in that goal.  If you are interested in supporting our coalition, please send your name and contact information to [email protected].

WIC (WOMEN, INFANTS, AND CHILDREN)
WIC, also known as the Special Supplemental Nutrition Program for Women, Infants, and Children, functions as a nutrition program for pregnant women, breastfeeding women, and families with children younger than 5. In Nebraska, WIC assists approximately 35,000 individuals across a network of more than 100 clinic sites.

WIC BREASTFEEDING PEER COUNSELOR PROGRAM
The WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program uses an evidenced-based peer-to-peer model that connects pregnant and postpartum women with paraprofessional breastfeeding counselors who come from the same neighborhood and speak the same language as WIC participants.  Sarpy/Cass Health Department Peer Health Educators provide basic breastfeeding information, positive reinforcement, and encouragement to WIC pregnant and breastfeeding mothers.  Our Peer Health Educators can be found in several of the Douglas-Sarpy County WIC offices.  To learn more about the WIC Breastfeeding Peer Counselor Program, contact Sarah at [email protected].
